Last month Morton denied a story that appeared in the Evening Times was true. The story claimed that Morton were interested in Adam Coakley who was recently released by Motherwell. However today's Greenock Telegraph carries a story that Coakley is now on trial at Cappielow with Scott McLung (revealed yesterday).
Jim McInally admitted that Morton had contacted Coakley previously when they offered him - through his agent - the chance to train with us. This is in spite of claims by Douglas Rae that Morton had no interest in Coakley.
In the article Chris Fitzgerald says that Coakley is at Cappielow after 'failing to earn a deal at Partick Thistle'. McInally, however, words it differently. He says : "He went to Thistle for a while, but I don't think he settled there". For me the wording here is important - if Fitzgerald is correct and Coakley failed to get a deal rather than failing to settle this seems like another concerning move in the transfer market. If he isn't good enough for Partick Thistle he shouldn't be good enough for Morton. I hope Jim's right and he just 'didn't settle'.
