Slovenian Targeted In Place Of Brighton

Morton are set to 'take a look' at Slovenian striker Jani Sturm according to today's Greenock Telegraph . Sturm recently had a trial with Dundee United but Craig Levein decided against signing him saying "Neither [Sturm or Marc - Eric Guei ] showed enough to convince me that a longer stay was warranted and both have been told so. It's disappointing, but it's important we get the right type of player for this role". Chris Fitzgerald's article states that Sturm's agent contacted Jim McInally.

Sturm's most recent club was NK Gorica in his native Slovenia. At Gorica he sampled European football playing in Champions League qualifiers. A selection of his goals can be viewed on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Jani+Sturm&search=Search

McInally has turned his attention to Sturm after it emerged that Tom Brighton has an ankle injury that will rule him out of action for a considerable period of time.

The article also mentioned that former Hibs right back Jay Shields is training with the club and that although McInally is not looking to sign a defender he says he would definitely sign Shields if the chance presented itself.

  2. Towards the end of the Greenock Telegraph article, it reads like we're already half way through the season and plagued with injuries. We'll need to be lucky when fighting for a good position at the end of the season.
