Morton 3 - Sturm (27, 39), Smith (o.g. 79)
Tonight's friendly at Ochilview turned out to be much more important than Jim McInally claimed in the Tele' today. Not only did the match feature a Morton team packed with fringe players but also five trialists, one of whom was the much talked about Jani Sturm.
Sturm had an excellent night and opened the scoring with a textbook downwards header back across the goalkeeper after a Jamie Stevenson cross.
His second was a tap in at the back post after a centre from a French trialist who was wearing the number 11 shirt. Ther move was started off by a particularly impressive precision through ball by new signing Darren McGeough.
Morton's scoring was complete in the 79th minute - a teasing cross from substitute Gary Loughran was headed into the net by Stenhousemuir's number 5 Jamie Smith.
Stenny's consolation came a minute later when former Celtic winger Brian McLaughlin finished with a nice shot from the edge of the box.
Of the trialists Jani Sturm was particularly impressive. The black Frenchman (Fabrice Seidou) who partnered him up front looked okay but it was hard to judge after he was injured and substituted as a result. Jay Shields looked good and may be worth a contract but I'd suggest that we wont be seeing Coakley at Cappielow next season after another anonymous 90 minutes. The final trialist looked like left back Gary Philip who was with the club last season, I don't know why he was listed as a trialist.

Tele' match report : http://www.greenocktelegraph.co.uk/article.php?sec=sport&id=9176
The speculation is that the unnamed Frenchman was Fabrice Seidou, who broke through to the Niort first team two seasons ago. He made 6 appearances in his first season in the Nacional division (tier 3), scoring once. Last season in Ligue 2 (tier 2), he made 6 league appearances as a sub, but didn't score.
ReplyDeleteShould also add that he was born in Cote d'Ivoire, but I assume he has a French passport.
ReplyDeleteCheers for the info. Where did you find that out ?
