A news item on http://www.gmfc.net/ reveals that Morton have had an increased bid of £80,000 and a 25% sell on clause rejected by Celtic.This smacks of chairman Douglas Rae having too much to do with who we sign and how much we pay when you consider that last week manager Jim McInally publicly declared the McGowan deal dead and that he considered Douglas Rae's valuation (and bid) of £65,000 to be excessive.
In my opinion this is a bad thing on many fronts. The chairman is bidding well above Paul McGowan's real value - the money could be put to much better use by signing more than one player for a couple of key positions rather than just one. The fact he keeps increasing his bids will encourage Celtic in the thinking that we will eventually crack and pay what they want. Finally, in my opinion Douglas Rae has undermined Jim McInally by raising our offer after McInally declared the deal dead and £65,000 to be excessive.
