Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough today told the Burton Mail: "Jon went up to Scotland last week to speak to a club - I'm not quite sure who. We're now waiting to hear whether he wants to move his family up there or whether he prefers to join us."
He also added: "Jon is the type of striker we're looking for, but it's out of our hands now.We haven't made him a formal offer as such but he's got an idea of the deal we have in mind."
After his two goals last night and the competition for his signature it will be interesting to see if Morton tie him up soon or wait until after watching him against Tow Low Town and Durham.
While searching for news on Newbs I found a thread on BBC 606 in which Morecambe fans were full of praise for their former player. The first comment, by Mfc, is particularly positive:
His goal rate per game was excellent...Tbh most people cannot understand why we got rid of him other than lessen the wage bill. Hes a very intelligent player and a good eye for goal! Hope he does well for you, you will not be dissapointed.
