The book was serialised in the Sunday Mail. In one of the articles McLaren told how he confided in Jim McInally - Ton manager at the time - about being abused as a kid and that only days later McInally decided to release him. He also claimed that Morton owed him £30,000 due to a clause in the contract he signed in 2005. According to McLaren he signed a one year deal with an option of a second if he played more than twenty games. He reported the situation to the SPFA but they never followed it up: "I made several attempts to keep in touch with the SPFA but it appeared to be a one-way street."
