East Stirling In The Challenge Cup

Today at Hampden we were drawn to play East Stirlingshire in the quarter finals of the Challenge Cup. The tie will be played at Firs Park, Falkirk on Tuesday the 18th of September according to East Stirling's official website. *UPDATE* Morton have also confirmed that this game will be played on the Tuesday night - the match will kick off at 7.45pm -http://www.gmfc.net/club-news/news-view.asp?id=218.

This tie, although away from home, is the best we could have hoped for. We missed the big hitters in Dunfermline and St. Johnstone and got the only 3rd division team in the draw. However Shire are not the pushovers they once were. They have scrapped their £10 per week wages and and returned to a wage structure more in keeping with other sides at 3rd division level. This has seen a marked up turn in their fortunes. At present they sit 2nd in Irn Bru League 3 on 12 points having won 4 of their first 5 games.

East Stirling are the easiest draw but will be no where near as easy as they would have been in the past few seasons.

Full draw :

St Johnstone v Brechin City
Ayr United v Partick Thistle
Airdrie United v Dunfermline Ath
East Stirlingshire v Morton
