Newby Joins Burton On Loan

Morton striker Jon Newby (pictured) has moved to Blue Square Premier side Burton Albion on a loan deal that expires in January.

The news was first mentioned on Burton's official website at 8pm this evening and was later confirmed minutes before the transfer window closed on BBC radio Scotland's 'Through The Window' programme.

Davie Irons told http://www.gmfc.net/: "John has gone to Burton Albion on loan until the beginning of January. It was agreed by both parties that things hadn't worked out the way we would have liked since he came to Morton."

Derek Collins elaborated on what Irons said when he told the Greenock Telegraph's Steven McArthur the following: "At the moment Jon feels that he needs to be playing every week, and at Morton no-one is guaranteed a starting place. It is an opportunity for him to play every week, and the travelling had become an issue as well."

Newby has made five starts, two substitute appearances and scored one goal - against Clyde on the opening day - this season. He was an unused substitute in Saturday's match at Airdrie.
