Morton midfielder Carlo Monti has had a charge of serious assault dropped by crown prosecutors.
Monti (pictured, left) was alleged to have repeatedly punched and kicked James McGregor to his severe injury, permanent impairment and danger of his life outside a gym in Glasgow in June 2007. McGregor was in a coma for three months after the attack.
However, prosecutors decided to drop the case last week. A Crown Office spokesman was quoted in Saturday's Daily Record as saying: "A report was submitted to the procurator fiscal in Glasgow concerning a 19-year-old male in connection with an incident in June 2008. After full and careful consideration of all the facts and circumstances, Crown counsel decided there would be no further proceedings against him."
Hopefully this closes a dark chapter in the former Celtic player's life and he now moves on and focuses his attention on making the most of his football career at Cappielow.
