Morton Could Drop Into Play-Off Position

Ayr United take on Partick Thistle at Somerset Park tonight, in what is their game in hand over Morton.

Should the Honest Men win, they will leapfrog Morton into 8th place sending the Ton into the play-off position. And this could be a real psychological blow for a Morton side low on confidence after two straight defeats. Especially when you consider that Ayr will have an excellent chance to extend the gap at the weekend when they travel to face rock bottom Airdrie, while we face a gruelling trip up north to face Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

“This is a big, big game but we are going into it in good form and on the back of a win over Morton that we deserved based on our second half performance," former Morton player and current Ayr manager Brian Reid (pictured) told the club's official website. "A win would lift us up to eighth place and set us up nicely for the trip to Airdrie at the weekend. Thistle are a very experienced side, who will be looking to get back into things after losing at the weekend, but we have a chance to give ourselves a huge lift and we will be going all out for a win.”

For once, all Morton fans should be right behind Partick Thistle.

It's a real shame that James Grady has had to carry on with what he inherited. I cannot understand why Mr Rae claimed to have the finances to tempt Allan Moore and then refused to spend a penny in the transfer window.

That has left us somewhat constipated - stuck in the bottom if you will!
