Miscellaneous: In the past four seasons Jim has started every match except two: in the first match of 2004/05 he was a used substitute and he was rested for the last league match of 2005/06 - a meaningless match against Forfar which preceeded the play-offs with Peterhead. He has started every match in 2006/07 and 2007/08.
Jim has been linked with a move to Motherwell on numerous occasions. Motherwell manager Mark McGhee confirmed his interest in an audio interview on the BBC website
In the summer of 2009 Romanian legend Dan Petrescu declared his interest in signing Jim McAlister for Unirea Urziceni. Jim even played a trial match against Plymouth Argyle. However, the move broke down after Petrescu said that he would need to come to Romania for a two or three week trial first and that Jim wasn't keen on moving abroad.
On Sunday 2nd August 2009 Jim went on a four day trial with Watford. Watford manager Malky Mackay said that he would continue to monitor Jim's progress.
