New Year Updates

Like the Christmas week the days around New Year have been really busy for me so I haven't had a chance to post news updates or full match reports however full service will resume tonight when I finally get a chance to add match reports for the Partick Thistle and Queen Of The South matches. I'd also like to take the chance to catch up on some Morton news in this post.

Ex-Rangers defender Chris Smith has extended his contract until the end of the season. When Smith signed for us in September neither the club nor the media revealed the length of his contract but we now know this must've only been a short term deal.

Davie Irons is trying to extend Jon Newby's loan spell with Burton Albion.

We recently failed in a bid to sign Fabian Yantorno from Hibs. Irons told the Greenock Telegraph of his bid: “Fabian is a player I would have liked to bring here. I have huge admiration for him, but right now he is in Hibs plans so unless that changes, I don’t see it happening. We have not been getting any encouragement from Hibs end, but if the situation changes, then we’ll see."

Jamie Stevenson has returned to Cappielow after his loan spell with Alloa ended on the 31st of December. Alloa's official website explained the situation in a news item: "As Jamie was over 23 years of age, loans can only be for one transfer period and therefore Jamie had to return to Greenock Morton on the 31st December, 2008."
