Gretna 0 - 2 Morton

Gretna 0
Morton 2 - Weatherson (17), Coakley (43)

Morton manager Jim McInally predicted that Gretna would give his team 'a wee bit of a run around' in our first pre-season outing of the 2007/08 season. It would seem that Jim sold his boys a little short.

A determined, hard working and somewhat depleted Morton side took the game to their SPL opponents and emerged with a fully deserved 2-0 victory.

Peter Weatherson - playing up front - opened the scoring when he chested down a long diagonal ball from the right to put him one-on-one with the Gretna goalkeeper and he was coolness personified as he lifted the ball over the keeper.

The second goal was scored by trialist Adam Coakley. Jim McAlister showed nice skill on the left wing, he broke into the box and cut back for Coakley who neatly side stepped his man by letting the ball run across his body and then wrong footed the keeper with a tidy side footed finish.

Lee Robinson made his debut as a second half substitute for Davie McGurn and made one notable save when he tipped Jenkins' goal bound volley onto the post. His kick outs were also impressive.

The only dampener of the night came when Scott McLaughlin was stretchered off with some sort of wrist or arm injury after an awkward fall.
